How become an Engineer
After graduating from high school, aspiring engineers usually must earn a bachelor’s degree from a school accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET). ABET employs over 2,200 engineering professionals from the public and private sectors to evaluate the key elements of an engineering program and ensure they meet industry standards.
Admission requirements for undergraduate engineering programs vary from school to school, but a competitive GPA of 3.0 or higher, high ACT or SAT scores, Multiple letters of recommendation, and personal essays are always in need. Great intelligence in math and science is also recommended.
Some schools offer specific engineering majors, such as water resources engineering or nuclear engineering, prospective engineers more often major in an engineering discipline, such as civil, electrical, or chemical engineering. This phase usually takes four years
In their final year, engineering students may take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam offered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
