One can be a scientist in whatever field or department they love. Adding to this, it’s a fact that not many choose to be a scientist. So, today we will be discussing how to become a scientist, the roles of a scientist, and other details. Also, stay tuned till the end of this article.

So, instead of directly jumping into the criteria for becoming a scientist. We should know what the term scientist means? Also read about the process of how to become a scientist.

What is Scientist?

A scientist is the one who uses education as a skill to collect information, and then uses the research work and evidence collected for drawing a hypothesis.

After testing the hypothesis, he finally shares this understanding amongst the globe. In simpler terms, a scientist can be defined by three major terms. These are how, what, and where.

  • “How” means through which means of study they will become a scientist.
  • “What” means what is the information they’re seeking about.
  • “Where” implies where will they be after applying this information and skills.

So, now getting a general idea of what a “scientist” means. We shall now move on to know what are educational qualifications required to be a scientist. Lets know how to become a scientist before it we will see some scientists list and their research.

Educational Qualifications to become Scientist

Okay, so the candidate must take and pursue science as the stream during the higher secondary levels that are in 10+2 classes. Then, the candidate needs to get a bachelor’s degree from a recognized board or an institution. Following this, the candidate needs to do a master’s degree as well as having any one specialization. And, finally need to do the Ph.D. too that is the doctorate. It would be great if the candidate chooses permutation, combination as the main matter along with biology during his 11th and 12th standards.

Now, here the minimum criteria for pass percentage are 60% aggregate in bachelor’s degree. Then a minimum 65% aggregate in master’s degree. It would be great if you get more, as you are the sole beneficiary. So, as said above there are different types of job roles (scientists) which you can be. Such as data scientists, ethologists, botanists, Astronomers, etc. So, now we will be discussing these various opportunities so that you will get a clear picture of what you want to be.

Different Types of Scientists

Ethologist

An ethologist is a scientist who specializes in the subject matter of animal behavior. He studies the behavior of animals under natural conditions as well as in man-made conditions. How they react to unnatural events, etc.

Microbiologists

It deals with the subject matter of algae, fungi, and bacteria. They study the growth and structure of microscopic animals and plants, their evolution. Adding to this the study of harmful microorganisms, other deadly viruses, agricultural, industrial organisms come under this field only.

Geologist

Geologist is the one who studies the states of matter, that is solid, liquid, and gas which constitute and make up our planet earth. They study all that matter which includes the earth, that is earth matter, earth history, and materials. Cover all the unnatural events including landslides, earthquakes, tectonic moments, volcanic eruptions, etc. they get into details of these occurrences.

Astronomer

Regarding this field, one will study stars, galaxies, planets, etc. getting into the details of how the planets shift from one position to another, and what impact it will make in our lives. Then, they depict what is our nature and behavior according to the stars.

Agronomists

Agronomists is the one who studies the field of agriculture and technological growth related to it. In short, a person who involves in the process of researching and developing cultural products comes with better ideas and techniques is known as Agronomists.

Well, these were some of the different types of scientists. From this, you can draw a line between the roles and responsibilities that differ depending upon each type. But, though knowing this, we will be discussing some of the generic roles that a scientist plays. These are the common duties of all scientists.

Roles of Scientists

  • Researching in the desired field or the specialization that one took.
  • Drawing regular hypotheses and testing them.
  • The third would be recording and analyzing the data.
  • Then, planning and demonstrating experiments.
  • It also involves writing research papers, reports, and reviews.
  • Presenting the result to senior officers and other research staff.
  • Then conducting fieldwork, collecting various samples, and drawing conclusions.
  • Then keeping up the new knowledge, data, and other technical innovations.

Well, these are some of the common roles and responsibilities of a scientist. Now, reading till here would make you fall in love with the term scientist. As it simply says “do what you love.” But, we are still in the making of “how to become a scientist.” So, now we will be knowing the different colleges which offer this unique opportunity.
