Difference Between Acid and Base

Today smartstudytrics.com has come up with an important topic under your chemistry, Difference Between Acid and Base. I hope that by reading this post you  will be able to understand the difference between Acid and Base very well.

Acid:- According to Arrhenius , the great scientist of chemistry , such substances which give hydrogen ions (H+) after dissolving in water, that substance is called acid . The pH value of an acid is less than 7.
Examples of acids :- CH3COOH, HCL, HNO3 etc.

What is alkali?

Substances which after dissolving in aqueous solution give hydroxide ions (OH-) are called bases. According to Brnsted-Lowry’s law, “bases are substances that absorb proteins from a substance.” According to Lewis’s law of electronic theory, “bases are substances that have the ability to freely impart pairs of electrons.”
Examples of bases:- NaOH, KOH, etc.

How do you identify an acid?

To identify acids and bases, a litmus paper made of lichen is available which is in two colors red and blue. To identify any solution whether it is an acid or a base, then litmus paper is dipped in that solution. When litmus paper turns blue after dipping, it is a rare alkali.
